"Swades (2004)"
One of the rare films from Bollywood that ventured to touch some of the disturbing issues the nation faces. The central character played by Shah Rukh Khan is really promising. This film showed some parts of our great nation of which we know only a little, 'n if we know, don't want to discuss the same. One problem I felt is that while it spoke for a change, its audience always remained an educated elite class who have the fortune to go watch it. But the awareness it points to, is toward an uneducated low class, who have fewer opportunities watch it. One scene where Shah Rukh shed tears while giving 25 paise for a glass of water to a poor kid was heart touching. May be the most heart touching scene...Rahman's songs except two were just craps. The film as a whole is really a different movie with a good intention for sure . Directed by Ashutosh Gowriker.
